Marine and maritime Intelligent Robotics (MIR)

The Erasmus Mundus Marine & Maritime Intelligent Robotics (MIR) master’s degree integrates marine science, maritime technologies, AI and robotics to develop highly specialised and sought after skills in the maritime sector. In this format, the students will be able to have a deeper understanding of marine processes and challenges and the potential of developing robotic and AI-driven technologies in this environment.
The first year of studies takes place at the University of Toulon, where students build a common background in marine science, robotics and AI. In the second year, the students will be able to specialise at one of the consortium universities:
- Applied robotics for underwater intervention missions (Universitat Jaume I, Spain). These technologies using manipulators are mainly applied in offshore industry, scientific research, aquaculture and marine defence.
- Safe autonomous subsea operations (Norwegian University of Science and Technology). With an increased level of automation and autonomy, these technologies seek to make subsea operations safer, more efficient and cost-effective.
- Cooperative marine robotics for scientific and commercial applications (Tecnico Lisboa, Portugal). At the core of such applications are engineers in charge of cooperative motion planning with temporal and energy cost criteria, cooperative navigation and control, and networked operations which are often enabled by acoustic communication links.
