Miniaturized Board-mountable Optical Transceiver for high data rate Military Satellite Communications

8 February 2020/in C4ISTAR, European Project, fiches /by Fransisca Tena

Mini-BOT aims to establish the first European supply chain of hi-rel OTRXs removing dependency barriers and unlocking the full potential of military fiber optics to the European A&D and space industry. Mini-BOT targets significant advances with respect to the state-of-the-art by engaging high-end technologies in which Europe has and continues to invest.

Goal
Mini-BOT OTRX design targets challenging the state-of-the-art as follows:
 128 Gb/s (4×32 Gb/s) aggregate data rates deploying transceiver electronics with >58% better energy efficiency and opto-electronics with >60% bandwidth,
 deployment of miniaturized metalens optics with one order of magnitude smaller size than conventional diffractive optics,
 module footprint as low as 1.6 grams and 190 mm2 representing >86% more capacity per unit mass and 139% more capacity per unit area.
