LODESTAR – Live Operational Data Enhancement for Situational Awareness Through Augmented Reality
Description
The research is focussed on innovations related to the following three characteristics: human-centric, seamlessly interoperable, enabling operations under all conditions. In the initial (study) phase of the project, a comprehensive overview of the state of relevant technological advances related to edge AI and AR will be established, relevant operational scenarios and mission profiles (with participation of the 4 MoDs) will be defined and insights related to soldier system architectural frameworks will be updated. Research work will include fusion of image from multiple sensors, automated (AI-based) detection of activity and stance of the soldier (used to make the soldier-machine interface adaptive) and multi-modal AR interfaces operating across weapons scope and helmet.
Goal
The LODESTAR project aims to define additional recommendations (compatible with GOSSRA and STANREC 4845 and building on top of these), based on studies and research related to AI and AR. Results will be demonstrated in a TRL4-5 demonstration systems realised in the final phase of the project.
