High Frequency Over the Horizon Sensors’ Cognitive Network

The project “High Frequency Over The Horizon Sensors’ Cognitive Network” (iFURTHER) aims to address air and sea long range detection (over the horizon) by developing new technologies to be integrated in a network of HF infrastructures operating in a collaborative way. At the end, the project will contribute to develop a persistent and very wide-area EU defence capability, to monitor air and sea domains by delivering some concrete and scalable solutions to consider.

Goal
 Detection and tracking of air and sea targets at long range over the horizon, far beyond current existing systems, by utilization of sky-wave and surface-wave signal reflections;
 Filling of the gaps and extension of current air and sea EU radar surveillance coverage, by implementing a multi static sensors’ configuration being supported by ad hoc networking protocols;
 Implementation of cognitive radar management schemes to optimize the operational parameters in real time and in accordance with the environmental conditions;
 Implementation of advanced signal processing techniques to improve over-the-horizon detection and tracking performance as well as target localization capabilities
