Contestants and professionals will have the opportunity to directly interact with experts and key players of the European Defence industry.

The webinar will be online next December 12, 10:00-11:15 CET. The topic of this third edition of the Challenge is “Security – threats identification and defence strategies”.

This webinar marks the beginning of the second phase of the III edition of  European Defence Challenge (EDC), a key part of the ASSETs+ project, that aims to atract young talents and to encourage them to initiate a career in defence-related technologies.

Workshop on the ASSETs+ Strategy for developing skills and competences for the Defence Sector

The workshop took place last November 24, in a hybrid format, at the University of Bordeaux/Bordeaux INP, where the partners of the ASSETs+ project and experts could share their insights for the sectoral skills recommendations.

During this event, the preliminary ASSETs+ Skills Strategy addressing emerging technologies in the Defence sector were presented, to validate the actions and to integrate additional suggestions to improve and finalize it.

The final ASSETs+ Skills Strategy, enriched with the contributions from this workshop, will be released in 2023, and it is meant to shape the European Commission’s future actions for the sectoral reskilling and upskilling.

 

 

ASSETs+ participation at Digital Tech Summit 2022

Digital Tech Summit is Denmark’s meeting point and showcase for digital technologies and strong research environments, technology leaders and startups.

5,000 visitors, 1,000 companies, 300 startups, 300 speakers spread across 70 conference sessions in 2022 and ASSETs+ was there to present the project and our contribution towards addressing the skill needs of the European Defence Industry.

New deadline for the ASSETs+ European Defence Challenge submission of proposals: December 2, 2022

The III edition of the ASSETs+ European Defence Challenge is open. The deadline of the first phase has been extended, so that students have more time to prepare their proposals.

The European Commission has declared technology as EU’s top priority for the next years. More particularly, one key objective is the mastery and ownership of key technologies in Europe.

With this objective in mind, the III edition of the ASSETs+ European Defence Challenge asks students to propose one or more work approaches dealing with security – threats identification and defence strategies. Threats in the areas of: defence industry, intellectual property theft, military equipment, auxiliary equipment, information flow, data protection, military operations, border surveillance and others, in the context of security and cybersecurity.

This Challenge represents a great opportunity for students to boost their careers and open new horizons.

Who can participate: All undergraduate or graduate students from all faculties in European Universities, vocational education and training centres and other institutions dedicated to education. IMPORTANT: Students are strongly encouraged to team up in pairs, finding a partner in a different university or country. Teams will get an additional point in the final score.

How to participate: Register here, write a 1 page proposal (500-600 words) and submit it before midnight CET December 2, 2022 to: challenge@assets-plus.eu

Workshop on the ASSETs+ Strategy for developing skills and competences for the Defence Sector, November 24th

Workshop: “ASSETs+ Building Skills for Defence”

The workshop took place in the framework of the Portugal Air Summit and as part of the Erasmus Days 2022, in Ponte de Sor on October 15.

Sara Varão Fernandes, Project Manager at European Federation for Welding, Joining and Cutting (EWF) was the moderator of this interesting workshop about the ASSETs+ project and its contribution towards addressing the skill needs of the European Defence Industry.

Irene Spada, from the University of Pisa, gave an overview of the project, and encouraged experts in Defence-related areas, interested in emerging technologies and education, such as policy makers (at European, National and Local levels), workers in big companies, SMEs and standard bodies, teachers, and researchers, to attend the Workshop on the ASSETs+ Strategy for developing skills and competences for the Defence Sector that will be held in Bordeaux on November 24th. Then, Eurico Assunçao, EWF Deputy Director, explained the importance of international qualifications in different sectors, and all the benefits of becoming an ASSETs+ stakeholder.

The workshop ended with the intervention of Garry Perks, Leonardo Portugal General Manager, who gave an overview of Leonardo Group, and future perspectives.

The Launch Event will take place next October 3rd, 11:00-12:15 CET, on YouTube Live Streaming.

The main goal of the launch event is to present how important the European Defence Challenge is for continuous improvement of the European safety, for students and for industry. Representatives of the European Commission, defence experts, universities and industry will emphasize the importance of developing and applying new technologies to identify threats to security and implement defence strategies.

The ASSETs+ European Defence Challenge (EDC) is an open competition to attract young talent to the Defence industry and to encourage them to initiate a career in defence-related technologies.
