ASSETs+ will be at the fair ‘La Fabrique Défense’

Our partner GICAN will participate in “La Fabrique Défense” that will take place from January 28 to 30, 2022 at the Grande Halle de la Villette, Paris (France).

This fair will allow young European citizens to get together, meet, create links and understand defense issues in a space of nearly 15,000 m2.

The Parisian event will include a space devoted to European defence which is fully in line with the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

Our partner GICAN will have a stand at this fair which has the aim of illustrating the diversity of defence actors and making defence more understandable and accessible by offering innovative, immersive and participatory experiences.

A rich program of round tables and testimonies to nourish reflection and discussions around the major defence issues.

Deadline extension of the European Defence Challenge: January 21st

It has come to our attention that some students are struggling to meet the deadline for Phase 1 of the challenge, due to its proximity with the exam period and the end of the Christmas break.

Accordingly, the deadline has been extended by one week, until January 21st .

Please note that the webinar with defence experts has also been reallocated to the 1st of March.

279 ideas generated in the workshop on the ASSETs+ strategy for developing skills and competences for the Defence Sector

The Workshop on the ASSETs+ Strategy for developing skills and competences for the Defence Sector took place on December 16th, with the participation of 81 experts in 6 parallel sessions, where 279 ideas have been generated.

The scope of the Workshop was the identification of the actions and practices related to the pillars of the ASSETs+ strategy for developing skills and competences for the Defence Sector.

Six parallel sessions were carried out on policies, projects and funds, technologies, technical standards and best practices, qualifications certifications & ESCO, and human resources.

More than 80 external experts strengthened the ASSETs+ Consortium, that includes universities, VET providers, companies, sectoral organizations, and accreditation, certification, qualification and research foundation.

The European Defence Challenge is an open competition to attract young talent to the Defence industry and to encourage them to initiate a career in defence-related technologies. The challenge asks European students to propose one or more work approaches dealing with topics such as artificial intelligence, sensor technologies, autonomous vehicles, data science, cybersecurity, chip technologies, control, robotics, signal and image processing, and defence-related technologies.

This edition topic:

Remote everything? To what extent can unmanned assets interact with humans in the field for defence operations?

Students have to write an essay that must present a new usage or suggest improvements on a new technology. Not only technological, but also socio-economic, political, ethical and environmental aspects have to be taken into account.

The challenge  can be answered individually, but participants are strongly encouraged to team up in pairs and to find a partner from a different university, faculty and even country.

Who can participate

The challenge is open to all undergraduate or graduate students from all faculties in European Universities, vocational education and training centres and other institutions dedicated to education.

The contest is organised in two selection phases, with a highly professional jury.

PHASE 1:
Answer the question by proposing your ideas
A jury of some of the key players in the European defence industry will review the proposals. The best ones move to phase 2.
– 14 January 2022: deadline for 1-page submission
– 15 February 2022: Pre-selection

PHASE 2:
Develop your ideas
Submit a 10-page proposal by adding details, figures, graphics to your initial proposal.

-14 April 2022: deadline for 10-page submission
-27 May 2022: Winners announcement

The IV Chile-Spain Aerospace Forum shows the progress and challenges of the sector

Last November 8 and 9 took place in Salamanca (Spain) the IV Chile-Spain Aerospace Forum in which aerospace experts have shown the progress and challenges it faces the sector in both countries.

Our partner Carlos Romero, managing director of Madrid Aerospace Cluster, participated in the conference on November 9, in the round table: “Present and future of employment, training and talent in the aeronautical sector“, where he presented the European ASSETs + project and the second edition of the European Defence Challenge.

ASSETs+ project at FEINDEF 21, the most important defence and security event in Spain

Our partner Madrid Aerospace Cluster was present at FEINDEF21,  the most important defence and security event held in Spain, with a stand where offered information about the ASSETs+ project and the European Defence Challenge 2nd edition.

FEINDEF 21, the second edition of the International Defence and Security Fair, ends after three intense days of activity in which innovation has been carried out, internationally cooperated and knowledge shared between companies, institutions, universities and other organizations, as a global response to safety.

This edition, that took place from 3 to 5 November, has been attended by more than 12,000 visitors, 300 exhibitors, 75 international delegations and more than 100 accredited media, making FEINDEF a leading fair worldwide, and the ASSETs+ project was there.

ASSETs+ will be at the International Employment Training Exhibition ‘Formando Futuro’

FORMANDO FUTURO, the International Employment Training Exhibition, will bring together the main decision-makers, prescribers and regulators from Latin America and the Caribbean, Spain and Portugal, from 16 to 18 November at IFEMA, Madrid (Spain).

Our partners Madrid Aerospace Cluster together with the Polythecnic University of Madrid (UPM) will present the European ASSETs + project and the second edition of the European Defense Challenge.

#EuropeanDefenceChallenge

ASSETs+ will participate in the Conference on Future Skills for Europe’s Aerospace and Defence Industry.

The conference is co-organised by the European Commission and EDSP members Rzeszow University of Technology -partner of the ASSETs+ project-  and Aviation Valley, on 21-22 October 2021 in Rzeszow, Poland.

Building on the work of previous and existing initiatives to tackle skills gaps in the defence sector – from the EDSP to Assets+ and the Aerospace & Defence Pact for Skills – the event will explore, from a knowledge triangle perspective, challenges and opportunities for cross-border collaboration for skills providers, European policies supporting skills development, and industry future needs.

There will be an opportunity for business-to-business (B2B) meetings, and for visiting technical labs.

  • New skills driven by emerging technologies

The second edition of the European Defence Challenge (EDC) will be launched next October 20. Our partner the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM) is the organizer of this edition.


We are working on the second edition of the European Defence Challenge, a competition to attract young talent to the Defence industry and to encourage them to initiate a career in defence-related technologies.

The European Commission has declared technology as EU’s top priority for the next years. More particularly, one key objective is the mastery and ownership of key technologies in Europe.

With this objective in mind, the European Defence Challenge asks European students to propose one or more work approaches dealing with topics such as artificial intelligence, sensor technologies, autonomous vehicles, data science, cybersecurity, chip technologies, control, robotics, signal and image processing, and defence-related technologies.
