SUMMARY:Workshop on the ASSETs+ Strategy for Developing Skills and Competences for the Defence Sector
DESCRIPTION:Hybrid event\, at University of Pisa (Italy) and on MS Teams. June 26th\, 2023. 16:30-18:30 CET. \nThe main goal of this event is to present the latest version of the ASSETs+ Strategy\, which addresses emerging technologies and skills needs in the Defence sector. Our aim is to validate the actions developed based on previous analysis and inputs from partners and external experts\, to incorporate additional suggestions to enhance and finalise the Strategy. This Strategy is intended to influence the European Commission’s future actions regarding sectoral re-skilling and up-skilling. \nAGENDA\nIntroductory session: presentation of the methodology used to develop the Strategy and the results achieved thus far\, chaired by Irene Spada\, University of Pisa. \n6 Parallel sessions: the scenario-based discussion tables\, chaired by ASSETs+ Partners and external experts. Each session will focus on a pillar of the Strategy\, which are represented in the 5-point security seat belt: \n\nTechnologies\nTechnical Standards and Best Practise\nHuman Resources\nQualifications\, Certification and ESCO\nPolicies\nProjects and Funds\n\nClosing session: Summary of the discussion by the chairs of each parallel sessions and closing remarks. \n\nThis workshop is designed to validate and integrate the actions for the Strategy for Developing Skills and Competences for the Defence Sector. \nThe emerging and disruptive trends related to the technological domains of Artificial Intelligence\, Robotics\, Autonomous Vehicle\, C4ISTAR and Cybersecurity are calling for the reskilling and upskilling of professionals. This implies\, on one hand\, the design and development of training programmes aligned with current and future technological industrial needs\, as well as the needs of the Defence industry. On the other hand\, it requires the establishment of a qualification system based on best practices within the European Defence industry. Moreover\, these technologies allow leveraging on synergies between Defence and Civil sectors\, enhancing Europe’s technological edge and support its industrial base. \nTherefore\, the scope of the workshop is to discuss the proposed actions\, with the intention of understanding whether the activities we are foreseen in the Strategy are appropriate for addressing the proposed issue. We will focus on three main points: \n\nIs the formulation of the actions complete or is there something missing?\nHow can we operationalise the actions? How can we make ensure the strategy’s effectiveness?\nWho would be the suitable entity or combination of institutions to implement these actions?\n\nThe expected result is a validated list of actions\, along with comments on their efficacy and effectiveness.

Several pre-conference workshops will be held on May 1\, 2023. \nThe IEEE Global Engineering Education Conference (EDUCON) is one of the flagship conferences of the IEEE Education Society. EDUCON 2023 is the 14th in a series of conferences that rotate among central locations in IEEE Region 8 (Europe\, Middle East\, and Africa). \nHeld annually since 2010\, EDUCON provides an opportunity to scientists\, professional engineers\, and students to present their work\, publish their results\, exchange ideas\, and network for future scientific and industrial collaborations. \nThe conference will continue to serve as a catalyst for connecting local and international stakeholders\, hence adding value to the global dialogue on how to positively contribute to the advancement of engineering education. \nOur partners Eric GrIvel and Baptiste Pesquet from Bordeaux INP University will attend the conference and present the papers: \n\n“Artificial Intelligence for Defence in an EQF6 Training and Education Program\, From the Design to the Execution”\, written by Eric Grivel\, Baptiste Pesquet\, Tudor-Bogdan Airimitoaie and  Akka Zemmari.\n“Sharing Our Positive Experience About the ASSETs+ European Defence Challenge”\, written by Eric Grivel\, Mateo Burgos\, Dorota Stadnicka and Gualterio Fantoni.

DESCRIPTION:The event will take place at Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingenieros de Telecomunicación (ETSIT). UPM\, Avenida Complutense\, Madrid (Spain) on April 19.  \nWomen\, Engineering and Defence is a project led by the Spanish Secretary of State for Defence in collaboration with the Fundación Circulo de Tecnologías para la Defensa y la Seguridad\, Isdefe and the Royal Academy of Engineering (RAING)\, which provides visibility to women who develop her profession in the defence and engineering sector\, valuing her contribution to society and providing female references who carry out their activity in the sector. \nThe project has a double objective\, to promote STEM vocations (Science\, Technology\, Engineering\, Arts and Mathematics) and to attract female talent to the defence and engineering sector\, presenting opportunities for professional and personal development within this sector. \nMore information: https://www.mujeringenieriadefensa.es/
