We are happy to invite the selected teams, that have moved on to phase 2 of The European Defence Challenge to a webinar.
The purpose of the European Defence Challenge webinar is to help the selected teams develop their ideas in order to provide 10-page final submissions.

Several speakers will give some inputs about political, military/defence and technological aspects.

Alain LAMASSOURE is a French politician.
Minister for European Affairs (1993–1995) then Minister for the budget (1995–1997), he was a Member of the European Parliament (1999-2019) and gave several conferences in Science Po Paris (Higher Education Institution).

Well-known pro-European, he is particularly interested in aeronautic sector.

His political vision about the importance of Europe sovereignty in terms of Defence will be very important for students to understand this complex topic.


Jean-Luc Moullet is Senior Executive Vice President at CNRS (French National Center for Scientific Research) in charge of innovation, start-up creation, intellectual property and technology transfers.

Previously, he was in charge on the industry practice of the General Secretary for Investissement, a service of French Prime Minister, where he managed a 10b€+ portfolio, targeting funding and investment opportunities. Between 2010 and 2012, he was Advisor on industrial affairs for the French Defense Minister. Between 1999 and 2009, he held different managerial positions within the Thomson-Technicolor group, in Paris, Los Angeles and San Francisco.


Nicoletta PIROZZI

Michael Linden-Vørnle works as a Chief Adviser at the National Space Institute (DTU Space) which is part of the Technical University of Denmark. He is leading the institute’s center for unmanned systems (DTU Space DroneCenter) which is responsible for coordination and facilitation of projects and activities related to development and use of unmanned, autonomous systems. Ongoing projects include establishment of testbeds for autonomous infrastructure at various locations in Denmark and abroad and counter-UAS technology.
Michael Linden-Vørnle obtained a Ph.D. in astrophysics from the Niels Bohr Institute (University of Copenhagen) in 2000.
Finally, Michael Linden-Vørnle has a military career. With the rank of Commander, he holds the position of Branch Chief Information Operations in the Royal Danish Navy’s battle-staff “Danish Task Group (DATG) 


Nicoletta Pirozzi is Head of Programme on European Union and Institutional Relations Manager at the Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI).  

 She works mainly on EU governance, policy and institutional developments in CFSP/CSDP, civilian crisis management, EU relations with the United Nations and the African Union. She is the Scientific Coordinator of the Horizon 2020 project EU IDEA – Integration and Differentiation for Effectiveness and Accountability. 

She is Associate at the European Governance and Politics Programme of the European University Institute (EUI) in Fiesole.


Alessandro Riccardo UNGARO

Alessandro Riccardo Ungaro is Senior Defence Manager at ASD where he mainly coordinates the sector-based Working Groups (Land, Naval and Air), NATO issues and the Defence Artificial Intelligence (AI) Experts Group. Prior to ASD, he was Research Fellow at the International Affairs Institute (IAI), a leading think tank based in Rome, where he conducted research projects and studies covering the European defence industry and military innovation. He holds a Master in Business Administration (MBA) from MIP Politecnico, Graduate Business School in Milan and a MSc degree with first-class honors in Political Science and International Relations from Catholic University.

Marian-Jean MARINESCU  

Member of the European Parliament. Member of the transport and Tourism Committee and Chairman of the Sky and Space Intergroup (SSI). Mr. Marinescu is also member of the Delegation to the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly and he is a Substitute member for the Committee on Budgetary Control, Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety, Committee on Industry, Research and Energy and for the Delegation for relations with the countries of Southeast Asia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

M. Marinescu is very much involved in all European debates regarding aviation and air traffic management (Clean Aviation, SESAR,.).
